DMP Commissioner Threatens The Quota Reform Activists

Dhaka, 15 July 2024 — DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman has warned of strict suppression if law and order is broken by not obeying the court order on the issue of quota reform movement.

He said this in response to a question from reporters at a press briefing about the security measures taken by the DMP on the occasion of the holy Ashura celebration and Tazia procession at Hossaini Dalan Imambara in the capital on Monday (July 15) at 11:30 am.

The DMP Commissioner said that the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has given a one-month stay on the verdict given by the High Court on the quota system. Quota reform is entirely a court matter. So it is the absolute duty of every citizen to respect and obey the orders given by the court. Everyone is bound to obey the rules of the court. All activities conducted by the police will be conducted with respect.

He said that anyone who engages in any kind of law and order disorder will be dealt with firmly.

Meanwhile, the anti-discrimination student movement announced an ultimatum and a one-point demand to withdraw the Prime Minister’s statement on the quota of freedom fighters in government jobs as ‘insulting’. According to the announced program, if the Prime Minister’s speech is not withdrawn by 12 noon on Monday (July 15), protest marches and rallies will be held across the country after 12 noon.

Asif Mahmud, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, announced this program in a video message at around 4 am on Monday (July 15).
